Systems

You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems.” -James Clear's Atomic Habits

I think a lot about how to improve my systems here at home for our little herd of mustangs, burros and goats. Having a schedule for appropriately frequent trims is part of that… along with the daily systems. I often think “there has got to be a better way!” I wouldn’t say I have anything “figured out” but I sure enjoy when things improve for the herd and me too.

Here are a few systems I love:

-pre-making supplement mixes into ziploc containers and having a plastic drawer system so horses/donkeys/goats are all pre-made and easy to grab.

-Keeping a google document of each animals health records (deworming, dentistry, vaccinations etc).

-Cleaning up the paddock whenever I am out there (and having the kids help).

-Weighting hay portions in IKEA bags (also great for when I am out of town and anyone else is feeding). They are easy to add to slow feeders.

-Hugging my donkey at every opportunity.

What are your go-to systems for keeping your horse(s)?
