Progressive Hoofcare Practitioners
I feel fortunate to have found the PHCP as platform and guide to becoming the best hoof care provider I can be. PHCP is a 501(c)3 non-profit providing certification with an emphasis on continuing education, hands on and in depth learning. I love that there are no “experts” in the PHCP - everyone is learning, sharing and striving to do better for equines. As Pete Ramey says, “if there is a Pete Ramey method, I don’t follow it”. He also stresses not to adopt habits but to be thinking before each step. I love that the PHCP is a barefoot and alternative hoof protection group considering the whole horse. The importance of nutrition education along with promoting the importance of movement, lifestyle, dental health and overall health of the equine above the hoof as well resonates with me. I HIGHLY recommend joining the PHCP if you are an owner wanting to learn more about horses. There are exceptional webinars and clinics open to the public and a significant discount to members. Also this year’s PHCP conference is in Denver! You don’t have to be a member or professional to attend - October 6-9th, 2022. Wonderful presenters and much to learn.

Here are some photos from a recent PHCP clinic taught by one of my mentors, Philip Himanka, in Colorado. An incredible weekend of learning! The anatomy clinics allow a look into the distal limb of cadaver legs from horses that were euthanized. Sadly, we often see reasons in the hoof that may have been the cause for them being putting put down. The goal is to help through better understanding of the internal structures of the hoof and distal limb. Doing dissections really makes me all the more awed by the beauty and brilliance of the equine.
